Make Visual Novel Assets Jam, often abbreviated as MVNA, is a visual novel jam where participants create assets for visual novels rather than complete games. It is one of DevTalk's officially sponsored jams, and runs for the first two weeks of February.

Overview

Participants may submit their entries to the jam's Itch.io page during the submission period. After the submission period ends, the public may vote on the assets they believe to be the best. In 2025, the highest voted (by quantity) will receive a prize of $100.

Rules

The following rules are paraphrased from the 2025 itch.io page.

  • Submissions must be assets, including art, narrative, audio, programming, or educational (e.g. tutorials) assets.
  • Submissions must simplify development, improve reader experience, streamline development processes, or solve a problem for developers.
  • Use of generative AI is forbidden.
  • Must include a usage license.
  • Must include a demonstration (screenshot, video, tutorial, outline, etc.).
  • Must be freely available until March 1st.
