Otome Jam (sometimes shortened to OtoJam) is an annual visual novel jam that takes place in May and June. Participants create Otome games in a casual jam environment.

Josei Jam is a sister jam of Otome Jam, with a broader theme of "josei games" (any game intended for women audiences, including many yuri, yaoi, and non-romance games).

Rules

  • The game has to feature a female identifying (she/her, she/they) protagonist (chooseable protagonists are fine)
  • Must have at least one male identifying love interest! Note, if you don't want to make a game focused around male love interest(s), feel free to join Josei Jam!
  • The game must have some focus on romance and/or establishing a romantic relationship with a love interest in one of the endings.
  • Sexual content (when properly labelled), previous work, commercial submissions, multiple submissions, use of pre-made assets, and cross-submission to other jams are all allowed.

History

Otome Jam was created in 2018 by Hana H.A, who ran the jam during 2018 and 2019. Otome Jam did not occur in 2020, but was revived by Akua, Azuremia, and Arimia in 2021. Since 2023, Azuremia is no longer an itch co-host.

While not hosted by DevTalk, Otome Jam is a Devtalk "supported jam". Meet and greets for 2025 are scheduled in both DevTalk and the Otome Development Discord.
