Videotome family

The Videotome family of engines is a group of engines for making visual novels playable on the web. They were originally developed by communistsister. Over 100 VNs on itch.io have been made with videotome engines, and at least one commercial game on Steam.

The videotome engines that allow for branches use non-blocking choices.

The Videotome engines use their own syntax and are designed with the goal of designing a 'friction-free syntax for writing a game' that can be done in a notepad file.

Videotome is 'a minimal narrative engine for making linear text based games' without choices or branches. It can have images, sound, and change the position of the text on the screen.

Videotome:ADV

Videotome:ADV is a 'micro ADV engine' that expands on the original Videotome by adding non-blocking choices and branches, background and foreground images, and quality of life improvements.

Super Videotome & Super Videotome (Modded!)

Super Videotome is a 'micro visual novel engine' that allows for more control over the graphics and visual presentation of the game, through the use of multiple stacked canvases.

Super Videotome (Modded!) is a modified version of Super Videotome by Stanwixbuster which adds new features such as printing variables in dialogue, save slots, history, and settings.

Videotome Heartbreak

Videotome Heartbreak is an engine for making web-playable 'stat-based dating sim[s]' with a storylets structure and customisable calendar system. It is more complex than previous engines and it is recommended to have some familiarity to javascript to use it.
