VFX
Appearance
Visual effects (sometimes abbreviated as VFX) is the process by which imagery is created or manipulated outside the context of a live-action shot in filmmaking and video production. The integration of live-action footage and other live-action footage or computer-generated imagery (CGI) elements to create realistic imagery is called VFX.[1]
In the context of visual novels VFX often refers to on-screen visuals that are attributed more to action than to a character, scene, or prop. A couple common examples in visual novels:
- Rain, Snow, or other forms of precipitation
- Slashes, spells, rays, or other such visualizations
- Emoticons/Emoji, such as to show the character's current mode.
- Glowing, such as a prop or character glowing, or a UI object glowing when hovered over.
