Resolution
Resolution most often refers to the visible dimensions of a game, video, or other visual asset. Resolution is expressed in the number of pixels, by width and height, used to comprise the image or visual element. e.g: 800 x 600 is 480,000 pixels. The higher quantity of pixels provides a larger potential level of detail to be displayed, though similarly will increase the file size of the associated element.
VNs may use assets of a higher resolution than that of the screen, so they can zoom in on the without looking blurry or pixelated. It's also possible to use vector graphics (such as polygonal 3D art) to make resolution-independent assets that can look good at different resolutions even when zoom in. Other ways to zoom in without losing detail include Signed Distance Fields (mostly for monochrome images) and fractal noise (mostly for textures).

- Standard Definition (SD): 720 x 480 or 720 x 576
- High Definition (720p): 1280 x 720
- High Definition (HD): 1920 x 1080
- Ultra High Definition (4k): 3840 x 2160
