An elevator pitch is a short, pre-prepared speech that describes your game (or company, or skills) in a clear, easily understood way. It's called an 'elevator pitch' as it's designed to hook someone’s attention in the time it takes for someone to ride an elevator to their floor.

A related idea is the log line, which is usually a one-sentence summary of your game and can help you focus on the core of what your game is about.

The elevator pitch and log line can be used in your game's marketing materials (including the store page) and help people quickly understand what your game is about. In addition, they can help you stay focused on your core concept as you work on the game.

Features

A well-written log line should:

  • Be concise (50-100 words).
  • Summarize the game's main conflict or goal.
  • Highlight the unique features that set your game apart from other games in its genre.
  • Target a specific audience.

Examples

Note: The following examples are just for illustration purposes. They may or may not be actual games.

  • "A Wizard's Lament is a point-and-click adventure game set in a magical world where the player must solve puzzles and make difficult choices as they race against time to save their loved ones from an ancient curse."
  • "In the post-apocalyptic world of The Last Survivors, players must scavenge for resources and build relationships with other survivors as they fight for survival against corrupt gangs and deadly mutants."
  • "A visual novel about a girl who is tasked with cleaning up her grandfather's old mansion, only to discover that she is not alone in the house. As she explores the abandoned rooms and corridors, she encounters spirits of those who once lived there, each with their own tragic story to tell."
